Riding Horses

We were out at Twin Lakes earlier this month for the annual FPC Labor Day Picnic. It's always a fun time with friends and a great way to meet new folk. As always, they had a lot of fun things for the kids to do. Here's two pictures of Rosalyn and Katie riding horses.

A Most Precious Gift

Our very good friends, Ned & Barb Currie, gave us the most precious gift after church this evening--a watercolor painting of our house! Isn't it beautiful? We've been humbled by Ned and Barb's many expressions of love and generosity to us. We're blessed to call them friends.

Beach Trip 2007

Every year we escape to the beach for a few days, and it is always a great time for us to enjoy one another, recharge, and get perspective for the rest of the year. This year was no different. Over the next few days I'll be posting more pics from our trip.

Here's two pics to get us started...

Rosalyn's 4th Birthday!

Birthdays in the Shurden household are like Jewish weddings in at least two ways: they cost a lot and they last forever. For instance, Rosalyn's birthday was yesterday, Sept. 3rd, but we've been celebrating for a solid week. Her first party (that's right; there's more than one) was at the beach during our vacation. Papa, Granny, Andrea, and Ethan joined us for the fun as we painted sea shells, pinned (or didn't) the tail on the donkey, opened gifts, and ate lots of cake and ice cream. Her second party was yesterday with Pops and Nana where we went fishing, rode our new bike, and ate lots of our favorite kind of cake, ice cream cake! Now really, can you get too much of a good thing? We're partying like there's no tomorrow!

Here's a variety of pictures from both parties...

Ordination

On August 19th, during the evening service at FPC Jackson, Nate was properly ordained (as they say) as a minister of the gospel in the Presbyterian Church in America. It was a wonderful service filled with many sweet memories. Bill Smith, father of Jeremy Smith, preached the ordination service. Ligon Duncan gave the charge to the congregation and Derek Thomas gave the charge to the ministers. Other men who played a role on the commission and in the service were Bebo Elkin, Guy Waters, Brad Mercer, Calvin Smith, and David Cleland.

We are thankful that many of our family and friends were able to join us and much of the corporate body at FPC Jackson. We missed all of you who couldn't be here, especially our friends from Franklin. All of you have been so important to us, and we miss you deeply. We have not forgot that it was you who first encouraged us to take this step, and it has been your loving care of us that has kept us going. We hope to see all of you soon!

Again, thanks to all of you who have prayed for us and supported us through the last four years. We're very thankful for the grace of God that has been our foundation every step of the way. Keep praying, as Nate begins his work at FPC. If initial impressions are any guide, this will be a busy season of ministry...!

Riding Bikes

Our girls have become big bike riders in the past few months, Rosalyn in particular. She's really enjoying her "big-girl bike" with training wheels. It's taken her no time to learn how to peddle, brake, and turn. Katie is too young for such a bike of course, but she simply loves getting out there with her little tricycle. Here's a few recent pictures of them burning up the road.

Learning to Dress...

Katie has a fascination with clothes, particularly clothes that are not her own. Here's Katie trying on one of Rosalyn's skirts...I think. Is it me or is something just not quite right?

Babies Everywhere...No, Really!!!

Here's a new picture of Rosalyn and Katie, sporting some neat new t-shirts that Kurt Cooper designed. Look, one says Rosalyn, "Big Sis" and the other says Katie, "Middle Sis." ... Wait, Middle Sis? Hmm. No, really? Yep, you guessed it...we're expecting #3!

We've been wanting to make the annoucement public for some time, but since we couldn't make it to the doctor till yesterday, we decided to wait until we knew more particulars. Christy is nine weeks along, and the due date is set for March 13th. Please keep us in your prayers, as things are sure to get even more exciting around our house! The Lord has been good to us, and we are thrilled at the prospect of meeting this new little one. "Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward."--Psalm 127:3

Babies Everywhere...

Rosalyn has never been too much of a girly girl when it came to dolls. No matter how hard we tried it seemed other things intersted her more. Well, everything just changed. Early last week, She pranced into the living room and announced that she was "having a baby," and she had one of her baby dolls tucked under her shirt (if you look at the picture closely, you'll see the little feet poking out from under her shirt). About five minutes later she "had the baby" in her bedroom and brought her out for the world to see! Needless to say, it was a momentous occasion.

What could you do? We smiled...

Drama Queen

If there's one drama queen in our family, it's Rosalyn. That's up for debate of course, because each of the ladies in the Shurden household have a way of making a whole lot out of, well, nothing... It makes for a pretty exciting time.

But if anyone is is able to bring a dramatic flare to all of life, Rosalyn is the girl. Here's a few poses from one of her latest "performances." Break a leg!

Insight

This last Sunday night we hosted "Insight" at our house. For those of you who don't know, Insight is one of the many youth programs at FPC Jackson. It is a fun time of food, fun, singing, Bible teaching, and fellowship for all the youth of the church and many in the community.

We're learning what it takes to pull off these big events. This is the second 40+ gathering we've had, and so far so good. Before we moved, we weren't in a situation where we could host a good number of folk. Now that we've moved to a little bigger place, the doors are open wide. It's a lot of fun (and a lot of work!), but we're so happy to have the room to do it.

Here's two recent pictures of Nate and I playing on our living room floor with Katie. What fun we have!

Vacation: It Can't Get Here Fast Enough

We're so ready for vacation! Usually we go sometime near the end of May or the first of June, but since Nate had ordination exams, we've had to put it off. Now, we're aiming for the end of August. But that doesn't mean we're not already preparing! Rosalyn is here sporting her new beach hat. You can't see it, but it has a little hole in the back for her pony tail. She's pretty excited about that!

Blueberry Cobbler...Yum!

It was so nice to be able to enjoy a Friday night at home together as a family. It seems like we've been running ninety-to-nothing of late, and our time around the dinner table has been very rare indeed. So, after a very enjoyable Taco Salad (if I do say so myself!), we dug into a fresh, homemade blueberry cobbler. Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like Katie approved!

Funny Girl

Katie is in a big time dress up phase. She particularly likes clothes that either I or Nate wear. In the picture below, she's sporting Nate's Titans hat and shoes. The toothbrush, however, is hers (thank the Lord!)
